Blood Root

The Blood Root here comes from a nearby stream,  running along a dirt road through a nearby town on one of the MOW routes I have driven over the years.  A cardboard box, a trowel, and some newspapers always at the ready in the back of the car. After many years, there are everywhere clusters of delicate white daisy-like  flowers in early spring, growing out of a thick but slender cone-shaped stem,  and springing from blood red roots. Always first to bloom here, along with the Snow Drops and Scilla, it’s a sweet tease to spring.
