FORGETTING

Forgetting is so soothing and blissful , like falling into another world, unless I can’t remember something I need to know, and then it’s quite disturbing. This is what I love most about swimming, digging into the water with my arms and feeling the muscles in my back work and stretch, and giving up everything else, forgetting how old I am, forgetting my aches and pains and the fact that I am getting more forgetful.  It’s enough just  to think about my breathing and making it from one end of the pool to the other. And then to even forget that. It’s a blessing sometimes not to think about anything……or to become  so completely engrossed and tightly focused on what I’m doing that I forget who I am . To be under water is like being a little lighter  “being,” purified, distilled.
